"A PATCHWORK CHRISTMAS"

In need of Holiday Entertainment? 'A Patchwork Christmas' is a musical readers theater written and presented by Joanne Rich and the group 'Songkeepers'! The program is 25 entertaining minutes of stories, traditions and wonderful holiday music 'patching' together the 'true story' of how we came to celebrate Christmas on December 25th. We would love to accomodate your business party, holiday open house, ward or church party, book club, etc.
Please contact Joanne by email: joannerich50@gmail.com or by phone: 801-943-6178.
HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

Affordable Photography!

Just want to pass this on to those of you in the same boat as me: you want to have fun family pictures but don't want to spend a fortune (especially since the likelihood of the children cooperating, sitting still, smiling, etc., is in serious doubt!). We had our pictures done by CheapShots Photography this year. They just have flat rates that include the session and a CD with all the copyrights to the pictures (one of my main requirements!). The rates are $20 (15 minute shoot), $35 (30 minutes), and $55 (60 minutes). I couldn't decide if we wanted to do 30 or 60 minutes, and they totally accommodated me by doing a 45 minute session instead! Right now they have a Christmas Special you can request where all the sessions are $5 off and they also include a photo Christmas card of your family and put it on the CD. They've got other specials and things listed on the blog periodically.

The girl who started it, Christy, lives in Spanish Fork, and the blog talks about a travel fee for sessions outside of Utah County, but she has an associate Emily who lives up here (who took our pics), so if you schedule a session time when she's available (Emily), then there's no extra charge. I don't believe that they are professionally trained in photography, but they do a nice job, were super easy to work with, and made it very affordable. Anyway, check out the blog, if you'd like. Scroll down a post or two to see some of our family's pictures.
Just thought I'd share...

Careful....

Hi everyone! I was looking for the Simply Sisters blog and someone had accidentally deleted it. It's really easy to do and really HARD to get it restored...so, please be careful. :)
I was able to get it restored, but it took quite a bit of work.

play group

This is a picture of last weeks playgroup at Gardener Village. Not all the kids would hold still long enough for a picture and I spy a few witch hats peaking out in the back but it's the best one I got.

Nutcracker

Just about 2 weeks ago, 8 year old Katie R. from the Cimarron Ward auditioned for Ballet West's Nutcracker. Of the 85 girls in her age group she is one of 32 girls that made it.
She is one of the buffoons. This is one of my favorite parts in the Nutcrackers; when the little girls run out from under the big skirt.
If you and your family usually go to the Nutcracker I just thought I would let you know the dates of her performances in case you want to go when someone you know is performing. She is in D cast which means her shows run December 26th - December 31st.

Congratulations Katie!

Girls Night Out Anyone?

For anyone who needs to get out this weekend! Saturday night Sept. 19th. I thought it would be fun to do something besides go to dinner, don't get me wrong...I love to eat. It just would be good to do something different, so eat before you come. How 'bout bowling or mini golf? We'll meet at my house to carpool 7:00pm. Then we'll decide where to go for sure depending on how many show up-mini golf takes too long if there a very many people. I figure we'll try to leave by 7:15 so RSVP in the comments if you can come so we don't leave anyone behind who will be coming! Hope you can make it, it'll be fun!

Check it Out!

I've been trying out this great new product called Nuriche, for almost 2 months now and I really enjoy it. I get all my 5 servings of fruits and vegetables each day, I have sustainable energy throughout the day (no more afternoon naps and I am able and want to get things done after I put the kids to bed), my friend has lost 14 lbs using it, and I feel fantastic. Check out this youtube commercial and tell me what you think. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=koHzFqQqc2I

Hey everyone remember to vote on Tuesday Sept.15 for a new mayor. I feel that we really need someone new in there. I'm am quite tried of paying for other peoples pleasures and egos. I think that you and me would like to have Mike Romero for Murray Mayor. We need a change and I think that he is a good change. This primary election is important to get him in to the final election. If you need a ride just call me. thanks

Set your DVR

In case you are interested....
A family friend is going to be on TLC's Ultimate Cake Off on Monday. Carrie of Carrie's Cakes was selected for the show and if you take a look at her website you can quickly see why...she is amazing. She and my mom were roommates at BYU. When I was young, our families would get together on the 24th of July....for a BBQ and firework show.
When I got married ten years ago, she was catering as well as doing cakes so she actually did my entire wedding. She let me design my own cake, but had to name it after my mom since she already had a cake named Camille. The Salt Lake Tribune did an article about it, but I'm not sure about the time. My Dish Network schedule shows that it is on at 8pm (not 11pm).
Anyway, I just think it is exciting, and well deserved for her so I thought I'd share. It is a really fun show...and I hope she wins!

Thank You Smith's!

For anyone out there in the same boat as me--you know, dreading grocery shopping, fighting to keep a child in the cart, crossing your fingers that the inevitable tantrum isn't that loud and that there aren't too many tears (on your part or your kid's) by the time you get everything on your list--I made a great discovery this week. The Smith's Marketplace on 90th S. and Redwood has a little free play place where you can drop off your little ones while you shop! I had seen it there before and had never tried it. Anyway, Halle just stood outside looking in at all the fun stuff (kitchen set, play house, blocks, TV, etc.) asking if she could go in and play, and it worked great! She was happy, I was happy, and Eden was happy (she took a nap in her carseat)--best shopping trip in a while. Anyway, the kids have to be over 2 years old, and there's a maximum height limit, but I think it would at least go through all preschool age kids. And there's an hour time limit, but it's amazing how much more time you have when you don't have to stop to appease/console/discipline a toddler! Just thought I'd share...

Legacy Branch

Hello Sisters!  Our ward Relief Society is in 'desperate' need for women to help out tomorrow at the Legacy Branch, from 10 - 11:30am. We need someone to offer an opening prayer and scripture, a musical number, and a closing prayer. If you are able to help out, it would be greatly appreciated. I am willing to babysit for you, if you need help, or if you would rather babysit and let someone else go, that would be wonderful as well. Just add a comment or call me. Thanks again!!

Furniture

We have finally decorated, painted, etc to our basement and we have extra furniture now. We are selling our old entertainment center for $50. It is in great condition, fits up to 32 or 36 in tv (not sure since we didn't have one that size). If you want it or know of anyone who does let me know. Thanks.

We are getting rid of a computer chair and plastic filing container also. Those are for free, so if you want them let me know asap before we DI them.

Blessing gown dilemma.....

Hi everyone!
Bun's auntie Jessica has spent 5 months making her a dress to wear to the temple, however due to a series of unfortunate events... This dress is still in the middle of Nowhere, Washington. We are in a bit of a tizzy trying to find a dress for Bun's sealing on Weds. Any suggestions? Any great blessing gown stores that have dresses in stock and might be open on Monday???
help...

I'm going to be starting a preschool-ish play group. It will be Wednesday mornings at 10 at my house. I know a lot of us have toddlers as well as preschoolers so I am doing a casual short little lesson easy snack and lots of free play. Every one is welcome and I would love suggestions, I am not a teacher and haven't ever done anything like this before so please, if you think of something I could do better let me know. The first playgroup will be September 23. If you need my address or have questions email me at mandiesloan@gamil.com.

Cimarron Ward Primary Parents.....

If you have children in the Cimarron Ward primary, you should have received a music CD. The CD has a selection of primary songs, including the 7 songs that the children will be singing at the program on September 27th. If you haven't received a CD, it doesn't work, or you can't find it, please let me know so I can get another one to you.

I would absolutely love it if your kids could listen to this to become more familiar with the songs. When I received this calling we listened to the songs every moment in the car and I couldn't believe how fast Makenna learned all the songs. But we haven't done it as much lately and she doesn't know them as well so I know it's a good time for everyone to review.
The primary theme is all about family, so these songs also make a great option for family night....let the kids sing the new songs for you!

Thanks for all your support & happy singing!

September Book Club/Game Night

The Book Thief
By
Markus Zusak

Friday, September 25
(date change due to Women's Broadcast)
8:00 p.m. (discussion will begin at 8:15 p.m.)
Amber Boyd's home

This book is very thought provoking.

Set during World War II in Germany, Markus Zusak's novel is the story of Liesel Meminger, a foster girl living outside of Munich. Liesel scratches out a meager existence for herself by stealing when she encounters something she can't resist: books. This is an unforgettable story about the ability of books to feed the soul.

I thought it would be fun to add some games after the book discussion. So if you aren't planning on reading the book come around 8:45 p.m. to play games-everyone is welcome! If you want to bring a snack or game to share that's great, but don't feel like you have to~just come to have FUN!

Watch this great link to get excited about reading

Book Club Conflict?

I just noticed that our next book club meeting is scheduled for the same night as the General Relief Society meeting. Do we want to reschedule? Amber, I think this would ultimately be your call since I believe it's at your house in Sept. What do you think?

Happy Birthday Tiffany

Just wanted to wish this darling girl a VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY - doesn't she deserve it!!!!! This girl just cracks me up. Anyone that knows her knows that she is the most fun person to be around. Fun, funny, loving, caring, the list could go on and on. She puts me to shame as she prepares amazing dinners every night and I'm glad to slowly be learning a few of her great recipes. Tiff is also a great story teller - I love reading her blog(s). She has an amazing way of expressing her personality as she writes which I wish I could do....I wish I had half the whit and personality that she has! She is always so thoughtful....constantly doing things or worrying about other people. Not only that, but she is a great example to me and so many people that have been touched by her story and amazing attitude when faced with an imaginable trial. I love ya dear and hope you have a great day!

Eternal Families

Hey ladies,
Wow, I have posted a lot tonight. Anyways, I wanted to make you guys aware of my friends blog. Her husband just passed away from Lupus. They have a 2 year old son and the couple are only in their 20's. I have been so touched as I have kept tabs on their journey through the hospital. Jami, has so much courage, strength, and faith. She has really helped me strengthen in my faith and positivity, and reminded me to not take things for granted. I also was hoping that maybe some of you ladies who have lost a loved one, could help give her love and encouragement in her comments. I warn you though, the first post, which is about his death is a major tear-jerker, so if you are not in the mood to cry stay clear. I hope this is not too touchy of a subject to be posting about, but I just want others to feel her faith the way I have. Happy reading!

Diapers

Hey everyone,
Just after we bought a new Costco box of diapers, we decided that Gavin needed to move up a size. So, we have 2 full Costco bags of Huggies size 3 diapers. If you want/need them, let me know. We want to give them to somebody.

thanks,
lori

Last Playgroup of the Summer!

Tomorrow (Wednesday)
11:00 a.m.
Murray City Park
Playground by the pool and old ice rink

I love this playground because of all the shade (unlike the last place I recommended...)! I thought about doing something with water, but I was afraid this week might be too cool for that. Anyway, I also hear there are yummy/cheap ice cream cones at the food place at Murray Park too, if that's a plus for anyone! Hope to see you there!

New Cheap blog

Hi all,

I found this GREAT blog that has all kinds good deals on clothes and things. It's super cute. Like, did you know that there is a DownEast Warehouse that sells their basic tees for $3 for 1 tshirt or $5 for 2???? I'm a sucker for deals...especially when it comes to clothes.

Enjoy! I think I'm going to check out the downeast warehouse sometime this week!

Babysitting

Hey ladies,
I am thinking of changing jobs and am in need of a new daycare or babysitter/nanny. Does anyone have any recommendations of daycares (that are affordable) or is anyone willing/looking to watch Gavin? I only need 2 days a week, Tues and Thurs. for 8 hours a day at most. It could be one person who watches him both days or 2 people who watch him for one day each. I really don't have an idea of pay, I figured we could come up with something together. Gavin is well behaved (in my opinion), fairly easy, and a good napper. I would greatly appreciate the help. I would love to take this job but can't without finding a place for Gavin.

Thanks,
Lori

Mike Romero for Mayor

Hey Girls, this is really weird for me cause I am not a polical person, buttt I think that we need a big change in Murray for our mayor. I have know this man Mike Romero for 17 yrs. and he is the most honest and humble man. He is very family oriented and does alot in the community. He was born and raised in Murray, and he even married his high school sweetheart. He used to live in Cimmaron then built a home in Murray fluffs. If you are worried about getting to the polls to vote you can submit a form within 9 days from now and they will sent you a ballot. If you need a ride on Sept. 15 then call me and I can pick you up to go vote. It is soooooo important to vote the primary election to get in for Nov.

HEART-FELT THANKS...

Many thanks to all the sisters who attended the funeral, prepared the food, served at the family luncheon, donated to the family fund or in your own quiet way shared in Heather's sorrow. We love you for your constant willing hearts and hands. The Collet and Anderson family were most appreciative. Thank you!
Love,
The RS Presidency

Neither a Borrower Nor a Lender Be...

...except when it comes to book club, right? Does anyone have a copy of this month's book, The Girl Who Could Fly, that I could borrow for a few days? I think I'm way down the request list for it at the library.
I already bought The Book Thief for next month and am a good chunk into it (I really like it so far!), so I could return the favor next month.
Thanks in advance!

Pool

So, I've lived in Murray for, wow, 7 years now and I've never been to the Murray Pool. I've heard great things about it. So anyway, it might be old news to a lot of people, but we are going to go try it out tomorrow and would love to have some friends join us.

I know it is late notice, but if you can, we are going to try and get there around 10 when it opens. But knowing me, it will probably be closer to 10:30.

Leave a comment if you are coming so I can look for you.
